Q:  What are the primary responsibilities of a block captain?

A:  There are several primary responsibilities.  Primary expectations include:

  • Introducing yourself and new neighbors.
  • Distribute welcome packages (provided by BFA) to all new neighbors
  • Introduce yourself to existing neighbors and let them know you are the block captain volunteer for your area.  Ask your neighbors if they have internet access to get email updates regarding neighborhood activities.  If so, please direct them to www.brandywinefarms.org .  If not, please ask them if they will provide you with their phone number.
  • Participate in annual neighborhood watch meetings.
  • Where appropriate, remind and encourage neighbors to attend all neighborhood social events.
  • Attend periodic block captain meetings to exchange ideas with other block captains.
  • Submitting any newsworthy information within your block (new neighbor, special anniversary, new baby) that can be published in the next edition of the neighborhood newsletter.

Q:  How many homes would I be assigned?

A:  The average designated block is 15 homes

Q: How much time can I anticipate this volunteer role to take?

A: Actually, one initial introduction are made, you can expect to spend less than a thirty minutes a month.

Q:  Will I be asked to attempt to collect money or dues from my neighbors?

A:  No.   Any neighbor who wishes to support the BFA through financial donations will be able to do so directly through the website, or by sending a check via mail.  Keep in mind the BFA does not have any dues.

Q: I do not want to be a block captain, but I would like to know who the captain is for my block.  How can I find out?

A: This information will be posted on our website once the network of neighbors is in place.

Q:  How long will I be required to serve as block captain?

A:  We would like every block captain to agree to serving for a minimum of a 1 year term.  We hope you will agree to serve at least two years, and prior to the end of your term recruit another resident to replace your position if possible.

Q: Who can I contact to learn more about this opportunity?

A: Please email blockcaptain@brandywinefarms.org  with any questions you have regarding this effort.
